A series of events at the CIF-Southern Section individual preliminary tournament Monday in Victorville has moved a La Quinta High School golfer from outside of the finals to playing for the individual championship next week.

Joanna Bushnell Crist of La Quinta appeared to have her individual season end Monday when she shot a 7-over 79 at Bear Valley Country Club in the Central Regional, placing her tied for 30th in the 114-player field. Only the top 24 players advanced. But Thursday the CIF-SS office informed La Quinta head coach Mark Williams that changes had been made in the regional and that five girls, including Bushnell Crist, will now advance to the finals at Temecula Creek Inn Nov. 6.
