BUFFALO, N.Y. — The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) announced that more than 1,200 acres in Westchester, the Finger Lakes, and Western New York have been permanently protected through a state program supporting water quality and local conservation efforts.

“Protecting drinking water at the source is one of DEC’s key priorities and we’re proud to partner with so many great organizations through the Water Quality Improvement Project program to conserve our lands that help filter and secure clean water resources,” DEC Commissioner Amanda Lefton said in a press release.

The DEC says five land trusts received grants, totaling more than $7.4 million. The money comes from a statewide competitive Water Quality Improvement Project Program.
