Anticipated Homecoming and “fauxcoming” street parties in the University District seem to have failed to materialize this year.
What has been a traditionally rowdy, unsanctioned gathering that saw students taking over Aberdeen Street during Queen’s University’s Homecoming celebrations — similar to the parties that took place this past St. Patrick’s Day — the past two years have marked a significant change.
Kingston Police reported that both weekends, from Oct. 17-19 and Oct. 24-26, were quiet. While “fauxcoming” or “FOCO” weekend — the weekend after the official Homecoming weekend of sanctioned events at Queen’s — was reported to be busier with the students back, behaviour and overall mood was positive.
