FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - As families head out for an evening of trick-or-treating Friday night, the Fort Wayne Police Department (FWPD) has a few safety tips.
Sgt. Jonathan Cutler, an FWPD public information officer, has a simple motto parents should use for the holiday celebrations.
“Be seen, be safe, and be smart,” Cutler said.
This breaks down into three categories of safety: Costume safety, road safety, and candy safety.
Cutler said younger kids should be accompanied by an adult and should wear reflective tape or carry a flashlight.
He said it’s important to have those items so that drivers can see the trick-or-treaters crossing the roads.
Additionally, it’s important to throw away candy that is unwrapped or homemade.
In the city of Fort Wayne, trick or treat hours are from 5:3
