LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – A judge’s decision in Pulaski County Circuit Court on Friday calls for the special election for the District 70 seat to move up.
A suit to move the date up was filed by the Democratic Party of Arkansas on Oct. 28. It argued that Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders' decision to make the special election date for the seat formerly held by Rep. Carlton Wing (R-70), being after the April legislature special session, would leave the District 70 voters without representation.
The governor had set the date of the primary for the seat as March 3, 2026, followed by an election on June 9, 2026. In a statement, the governor maintained that the dates, outside the mandated 150-day election requirement following Wing’s Sept. 30 resignation, were the best for election security and expenses.
