PHILADELPHIA — Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro announced on Friday new steps his administration is taking to address looming lapse in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program payments.

Speaking at Philabundance, a nonprofit food bank in South Philadelphia, Shapiro announced that he signed a disaster declaration, giving his administration more ways to support the Commonwealth's charitable food network.

At least $5 million in state funds will be distributed to food banks across the state, routed through the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture's Pennsylvania Agricultural Surplus System (PASS). Those funds are expected to roll out to food banks within hours, Shapiro said.
