New Mexicans enrolled in the federal assistance program for moms and babies can rest assured their aid will continue through at least the end of November, according to the state Department of Health.

The federal government shutdown has thrown funding for WIC — the program for women, infants and children relied upon by more than half of New Mexico babies — into question, along with other aid programs. The feds infused the program with tariff revenue in October but some states are reporting concerns about whether that funding will carry the program through the next few weeks.

New Mexico WIC, however, "has funding through November," Health Department spokesperson David Morgan said Thursday.
