Manchester senior Grant Johnson is headed to the state finals in cross country this weekend. When he steps up to the starting line at Michigan International Speedway, he will be far from the only runner who also competes in track and field in the spring, but he is likely one of only a handful to run cross country in the fall and be a hurdler and sprinter in the spring.

He’s used to competing in a wide range of events, since during the AAU season he competes in decathlon, a competition that tests an athlete in 100, 400, 1500, 110 hurdles, long jump, shot put, discus, high jump, javelin and pole vault.
