US President Donald Trump on Friday declined to clarify whether his administration plans to resume underground nuclear detonation tests, following a social media post that sparked concern the United States might conduct its first nuclear explosion in more than three decades.
“You’ll find out very soon,” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One, when asked whether he intends to restart underground nuclear testing. “We’re going to do some testing,” he added. “Other countries do it. If they’re going to do it, we’re going to, OK?”
Trump's comments came a day after he ordered the US military to immediately restart the process for testing nuclear weapons , a surprise announcement made on Truth Social as he flew to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping for trade talks in Busan, South Korea.
