Kingston’s Wolfe Islander IV ferry service has been met with several challenges since its maiden voyage on Aug. 15, 2023.
Frequent interruptions in service have plagued the vessel since its introduction two years ago.
On Oct. 11, the ferry resumed its service following maintenance in a dry dock since August. According to a social media post by the Ministry of Transportation (MTO), generator failure was to blame, a propulsion system that wasn’t meant to be used full-time.
It would be an understatement to say that Wolfe Island residents are frustrated that their only means of connecting to the mainland flounders in intermittent failure.
The latest interruption of service on Monday evening had nothing to do with mechanical failure. It was a staffing issue, according to the MTO.
