INDIANAPOLIS — Newly-released edited body-worn camera footage shows Indianapolis Metropolitan police officers shoot an armed man who investigators believe was attempting to commit "suicide by cop."
The incident began around 11:30 a.m. on July 2, 2024, when IMPD officers were called to the 5100 block of W. Vermont Street. A 911 caller had told dispatch that he had been shot inside his home on the city's west side.
The caller, later identified as 86-year-old Richard Bures, told 911 that he had been shot in the neck by an unknown man. However, he appeared confused and frantic during the call and repeatedly requested that police officers be sent.
It was later determined by police that Bures had allegedly shot himself once in the neck and left a suicide note at the scene. At the time of the
