A U.S. citizen was seen being detained by Border Patrol agents in Chicago, a day after Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem claimed that her agency was not engaging in the practice.
In a video obtained by The Chicago Tribune on Friday, Border Patrol agents surround a Latino man in handcuffs.
"I am an American citizen," the handcuffed man says.
"This is absurd!" a nearby resident shouts.
Moments later, the agents could be heard apologizing to the man as they set him free.
On Thursday, Noem told reporters that no U.S. citizens were being detained as part of President Donald Trump's anti-immigrant raids.
"There's no American citizens that have been arrested or detained," she insisted. "We focus on those that are here illegally. And anything that you would hear or report that would be different than that is simply not true."
