Syracuse, N.Y. -- Some of the kids at Golisano Children’s Hospital know far too much about spooky and scary.
So on Halloween, for more than 25 years, the staff at Upstate University Hospital have dressed up as witches and Grinches and turned nurses stations into goodie stations to ensure their younger patients don’t miss out on Halloween.
They provide costumes for any kid -- both patients and siblings -- who want one, hospital spokeswoman Kathleen Froio said. The children then parade through the hospital, collecting treats and presents. Caretakers are welcome to join in the fun. So are therapy dogs.
If a child feels unwell or chooses not to participate, volunteers and staff leave goodie bags at their bedside.
