Court rulings on Friday ensured the nation’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, will continue.
But the future is unknown as the U.S. Government shutdown remains in place.
“It's very disheartening because I just came out of homelessness,” said Alicia Byrd of Orlando. She was battling homelessness with her two elementary school-aged children. But now she is thriving, in an apartment, and in the training program at the nonprofit group United Against Poverty.
She's also one of the SNAP recipients who depend on the discounted prices in United’s grocery store, where more than 80% of shoppers meet the income guidelines for government benefits.
Many tell us it's been stressful not knowing day to day if SNAP will continue.
