MADISON, Wis. -- There is no evidence to corroborate allegations of a physical and sexual assault of a child by Whitehorse Middle School staff, Madison police said Friday.

Evidence gathered during an investigation directly contradicts the allegations, which went viral on social media. Police said significant resources were dedicated to the investigation, which was made "significantly more difficult" because of inaccurate social media posts.

" These social media posts in turn drove some to make serious threats to staff members at Whitehorse Middle School," police said in a statement. " There is an abundance of evidence that demonstrates that these staff members were not involved in any type of assault or wrongdoing.
