LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - Amid ongoing uncertainty over funding for federal food assistance programs and continuing increased food costs, butcher shops across Kentucky are pushing hunters to participate in the Hunters for the Hungry program.
The non-profit has coordinated with butcher shops and meat processors for 25 years, collecting the meat they process that is harvested by local hunters. That meat is then distributed to organizations and food banks across the Commonwealth.
“It is a need. People are, are worried where they’re going to get their protein, where they’re going to get their food,” Amanda Bower, owner of Cutter’s Ridge Deer Processing, said. “So I think the numbers, like I said, are still, you know.”
