PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Two federal judges have ordered the federal government to continue funding SNAP benefits during the ongoing shutdown. But for families and farmers markets that rely on the program, uncertainty still looms heading into the weekend.

“State of emergency is certainly on the table. I think right now, there’s litigation, and we’re hopeful for the litigation to actually resolve this,” said Gov. Katie Hobbs.

The state of Arizona announced this week it is allocating $300,000 toward a new temporary program called “Food Bucks Now.” The initiative provides $30 vouchers for families who receive food assistance through SNAP, allowing them to buy fresh produce and other healthy foods at participating farmers markets, mobile markets, and community grocers.
