HARRISBURG, Pa. — The Shapiro administration announced that post-traumatic stress injury benefits have officially taken effect for first responders on Thursday, Oct. 30, one year after the bipartisan protections were signed into law.

A new provision from Act 121 of 2024 , the benefits provide stronger protections and access to care for firefighters, police, EMTs and paramedics diagnosed with post-traumatic stress injuries (PTSI).

The legislation was signed by Governor Josh Shapiro in October 2024 and removes burdensome requirements that align better with state laws or trauma exposure in the emergency service professions.
