MADISON (WKOW) -- Second Harvest Foodbank announced it is changing how it operates, because of increased food insecurity, and pressure from the federal shutdown.
Second Harvest has activated its emergency protocol, extending its hours and calling in extra volunteers.
Staff are preparing the shelves to handle twice the usual amount of produce expected to arrive soon.
The first loads of additional produce came in Friday morning, including cabbage, apples, carrots, and onions.
Second Harvest says food pantry partners are already requesting more food.
