DAVIESS CO., Ky. (WFIE) - A growing concern for many as SNAP benefits are not expected be distributed for the month of November.
This concern stretching to Tri-State schools, including Owensboro Public Schools.
“There have been numerous studies that have shown that hunger can lead to a number of different problems when it comes to education. Lack of focus, behavior issues, there’s a number of things,” OPS Director of Public Relations, Jared Revlett said.
Those with OPS say about 55 percent of their students qualify for some form of government benefits, including SNAP and Medicare.
While OPS provides students with free breakfast and lunch during the school week, they’re concerned about when students aren’t in class.
