SCIOTO COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) - Some classrooms in Scioto County will be empty going forward as federal funding dries up due to the government shutdown.
Employees at the head start program with the Scioto County Community Action Program are being placed on a temporary leave of absence or being furloughed. This happens during a shutdown when there’s no money left to pay non-essential employees.
Sarah Sloan, the Early Childhood Director for the organization, told us why they have to start placing employees on unpaid temporary leave.
“Our grant is Nov. 1. Which means that the government does not allocate resources and does not have appropriations than that funding stops, so at this point because the government is not opened up, we will not have resources after today, the 31st of October,” Slo
