ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. —

Election day is on Nov. 4, and on the ballot are several Albuquerque City Council seats, including the one in District 9.

The district encompasses the southeast heights and the Foothills. It spans from Menaul and Eubank Boulevards to the Four Hills Country Club.

Incumbent Renee Grout and challenger Colton Newman are running for the city council seat in District 9. They both agree that crime, homelessness and traffic safety are issues in that area, but they differ in their approaches to addressing them.

"When I first came in four years ago, catalytic converter theft was outrageous," Grout said. "We got the ordinance passed for catalytic converter theft and since then, we have seen that drop dramatically."
