SURPRISE, Ariz. — A portion of Loop 303 in Surprise was closed for an extended time while officials investigated a deadly crash.

The crash happened around 4:15 p.m. on Loop 303 near Grand Avenue, DPS officials said. Preliminary information suggests the driver of a Ford F-350 hit the back of a van that was stopped in traffic at the Grand Avenue exit, DPS officials said. A passenger in the front seat of the van was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The driver of the F-350 then continued and hit two other vehicles, officials said.

Two people were taken to nearby hospitals and two others had minor injuries, officials said.

No other information was given.
