MADISON, Wis. -- Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers declared a state of emergency and a period of abnormal economic disruption on Friday amid the ongoing federal government shutdown, citing uncertainty around federal food assistance.
Evers directed the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection to crack down on price gouging as almost 700,000 Wisconsinites prepare to begin November without FoodShare benefits.
"Wisconsinites and Americans across the country are now scrambling, trying to figure out how to feed their families," Evers said.
