CLEVELAND, Ohio -- A second grader at Rocky River’s St. Christopher School has died after suffering an accidental gunshot wound while on vacation in Columbus, officials said.
Ryan Rodriguez, 7, died Sunday at a home on Grandview Avenue on the northwest side of the city, according to police.
Columbus police said that officers went to the home about 9 p.m. and found that Rodriguez accessed an unsecured gun and accidentally shot himself.
The boy’s death devastated congregants of the St. Christopher Parish, officials said in a statement.
“Ryan was a joyful presence in our classrooms and hallways — a kind friend, a curious learner, and a bright light to everyone who knew him,” Principal Mary Meler said. “We are all heartbroken at hearing this terrible news and are keeping his family in our
