A leisure centre in Oldham was evacuated tonight following a suspected gas leak. The incident happened at Oldham Leisure Centre at around 8pm.

It is understood staff evacuated the building while firefighters and gas engineers were scrambled. Tests are continuing to establish if it was a gas leak.

Firefighters and engineers remain at the leisure centre on Middleton Road. There are no reports of anyone falling ill.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “At around 8pm this evening (Friday 31 October), five fire engines from across Greater Manchester were called to reports of a gas leak at Oldham Leisure Centre on Middleton Road.
