COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - SNAP benefits are set to lapse on Saturday for thousands of Coloradans who rely on the assistance.
More than 86,000 people in El Paso County and more than 41,000 people in Pueblo County rely on SNAP to put food on the table.
Pikes Peak United Way said that calls to its 211 help line have spiked from an average of about 175 calls a month to more than 200 in just the past two weeks.
The nonprofit said that the increase shows how many families are struggling to cover basics, including food, rent and utilities.
United Way said that they are working with local partners to keep pantries stocked and connect families to resources as fast as possible.
