Dart Bank introduces ‘Copper That Counts’ to recycle pennies

MASON, Mich. (WILX) - A new promotion from Dart Bank aims to bring more pennies to their vaults, while adding increased value to those who bring them in.

They call it Copper That Counts.

“For every 500 pennies, which is a five-dollar value, we are providing six dollars. So, that’s really [a] 20% bonus on your money,” Michelle Carpenter said.

Carpenter is the Senior Vice President, Treasury Management and Retail Officer at Dart Bank in Mason. She says this initiative comes after the United States Mint provided its last batch of pennies in August of this year.

“The Fed is not allowing us, or anyone, any bank or financial institution, or credit union to actually order pennies anymore. So it really got a team at Dart Bank thinking about what we can do to help the community,” she said.
