WARREN – Warren Cousino engaged in a couple of close battles on the grid-iron this season.
The Patriots found a way to win another close affair Friday evening when it mattered the most — the postseason.
Clinging to a 14-7 lead entering the fourth quarter, host Cousino put together a pair of scoring drives to pull away and played shutdown defense in the second half to prevail over visiting Birmingham Seaholm 28-7 in a Division 2 district semifinals game.
The Patriots (7-3) advance to the district finals next weekend at Birmingham Groves, which cruised past Warren Mott 49-14 Friday in the other district semifinals game in District No. 15.
Both teams scored seven points in the first quarter and Cousino went ahead 14-7 at the half before tacking on 14 more points in the final stanza.
