The Dodgers held on for a 3-1 win over the Blue Jays at Rogers Centre on Friday night, but it was how they staved off elimination that made this game all the more exciting.
With a runner on first against reliever Roki Sasaki in the bottom of the ninth, Toronto’s Addison Barger smacked an extra-base hit into the left-center field gap before the ball became lodged at the bottom of the wall.
Dodgers center fielder Justin Dean and left fielder Enrique Hernandez immediately held up their arms to signal to the umpires that the play should be ruled a dead ball and prevent the baserunners from scoring.
