BOISE, Idaho — At two local food banks on Friday, the day was all about packing and preparing for what may be coming.

Volunteers at St. Vincent de Paul's Overland Road pantry packed non-perishable boxes while staff loaded fresh meat and produce into shopping carts. And at The Idaho Food Bank's distribution center in Meridian, the organization brought in extra volunteers to repack bulk pasta into family-sized bags.

Both organizations are bracing for what could be their most challenging period yet as SNAP benefits — commonly known as food stamps — remain in limbo due to the federal government shutdown.
