CHARLESTON — With the federal government shutdown going into its second month and continued uncertainty over Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits, Gov. Patrick Morrisey is directing more state funding to West Virginia’s largest food banks.

In a press conference Friday afternoon at the Governor’s Reception Room at the State Capitol Building, Morrisey announced an additional $2.5 million was being sent to the state’s two largest food banks – Mountaineer Food Bank in Gassaway and Facing Hunger Foodbank in Huntington — to purchase food.

Those organizations are also cutting checks to smaller food banks and pantries across the state to purchase food.
