ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) - Do you remember the ‘what would you do for a Klondike Bar’ jingle?
Well, what would you do for a hot dog? And a cool hat. But mainly a hot dog?
That question was answered for one Salem native, and spoiler alert, it involves purchasing a plane ticket that took him halfway across the country.
“While baseball is in my DNA, ketchup and mustard runs through my veins,” explains Joe Emery, a self-proclaimed hotdog enthusiast.
His lore began at Salem Avalanche games and one of the most iconic spots in Roanoke.
“On Thursdays in preschool, my Poppy would pick me up me up and we would go to the Roanoke Weiner Stand #2 and we would split a two-dog combo every single Thursday.”
Combine the two, and you have a recipe for one of the most charming mid-summer trips imaginable.
