Ontario is proposing to consolidate its 36 conservation authorities into seven – a move the environment minister insists will improve services without job losses, but the NDP warns will increase risks and weaken environmental protections.

Environment Minister Todd McCarthy said Friday Queen’s Park will soon introduce legislation to create a new provincial agency to oversee the amalgamation and consult on the proposed boundaries of the new regional authorities.
