Syracuse, N.Y. — Fran Brown said it was time to move on from Rickie Collins. He said Collins had a month to be the guy and that it was time to try something new.
The problem? Syracuse doesn’t have a quarterback better than Collins.
Syracuse used two true freshman quarterbacks in Friday night’s 27-10 loss to North Carolina. Joe Filardi went 4-for-18 and Luke Carney was sacked on his only dropback of the night.
“Just try to get something new to happen,” Brown said, explaining his QB decision. “Just something to keep going on and being able to move. It was a month straight of football and we’ve got other kids on the football team also. Just trying to get a new spark.”
What Syracuse’s quarterbacks showed Friday was something new, but it wasn’t what Brown had planned.
