Central Coast opened its A-League Women’s (ALW) championship defence by seeing off Adelaide United with a 3-0 victory at the weekend.
Under new Mariners coach Kory Babington, Peta Trimis and Jynaya Dos Santos scored a goal each within two minutes of each other, before rising Matildas star Isabel Gomez had the final say at polytec Stadium.
Later on Sunday, Canberra United suffered a 2-1 defeat to the Newcastle Jets despite star striker Michelle Heyman’s opening strike.
With newly-capped Australian international Gomez named on the bench, Trimis brilliantly led the way for the Mariners with dangerous pace down the right wing.
Trimis hit the scoreboard in the 39th minute after Young Matildas midfielder Avaani Prakash won back possession and offloaded to Isabella Coco-Di Sipio for the goal
