Applications are now open for a new annual scholarship to honour former City of Newcastle (CN) councillor Sinead Francis-Coan’s commitment to the environment.

The popular local government figure was part-way through her first term when she passed away suddenly in June.

In a mark of respect to the Ward 3 official, council unanimously voted to establish the grant, to be funded by CN and administered by Women’s Environmental Leadership Australia (WELA) for the next three years.

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to participate in WELA’s transformative programs, which equip emerging changemakers with the skills to transform Australia’s response to environmental and climate challenges.
