CHICAGO (WLS) -- A 12-year-old boy was among three people killed in a multi-vehicle crash on Chicago's South Side early Sunday morning, officials said.

The crash happened at about 1:52 a.m. on southbound Interstate 94 at the Interstate 57 split, Illinois State Police said.

Footage from the scene indicates that multiple vehicles were involved in the crash, which left three people dead.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office later identified them as 12-year-old Joseph Chacon, 52-year-old Gregory Chacon and 34-year-old Gloria Arias.

What caused the crash was not immediately clear.

All I-94 southbound lanes were temporarily closed at 95th Street. They reopened at about 7:27 a.m., ISP.
