STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — More than 50,000 runners from all over the world are expected to compete in today’s 2025 TCS New York City Marathon, which starts on Staten Island and winds through Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx before concluding in Central Park in Manhattan.

One of those runners competing in the 26.2-miler will be Advance/SILive.com sportswriter Michael O’Brien, who had competed in cross country and track and field at both Xavier High School and the College of Holy Cross.

O’Brien has been training hard the last four months for the event, but has never run at this distance.

O’Brien has set a lofty goal for himself by hoping to finish the race in three hours, 30 minutes, but in the end he would just like to finish the NYC Marathon, he said.
