A section of a Niagara Falls trail will be renamed in recognition of Rob Nicholson, a former longtime Niagara MP.

City councillors voted unanimously in favour of a motion put forth by Coun. Mike Strange to rename a portion of NS&T (Niagara, St. Catharines & Toronto) Trail to Honourable Rob Nicholson Pathway.

A renaming event at the trail, the former route of the NS&T railway, between Meadowvale Park and Drummond Road will be held this month.

The event will also recognize the resurfacing of the trail between Kalar and Drummond roads, making it accessible for all users.

Nicholson served more than 24 years in the federal government, spanning four decades and four prime ministers.
