Santa Maria has seen a slight increase in the number of homeless individuals, as well as an increase in the number moved to shelters and out of vehicles, according to a City staff report.
The Santa Maria City Council will get an update on homelessness in the City that includes that information on Tuesday, and will also consider naming a street after community icon Jim Glines, who died in February.
Assistant City Manager Chuen Wu will discuss City efforts to address homelessness and encampment response, and representatives from the Santa Maria Police Department and City Rangers will highlight local actions and respond to councilmember's questions.
The annual point-in-time count conducted in January found that 459 individuals were experiencing homelessness, according to the staff rep
