After decades of prospecting, mining, and collecting gold across Alaska, longtime miner and Fairbanks community member Roger Burggraf has donated his personal gold collection to the University of Alaska Museum of the North (UAMN).
Roger’s Alaskan adventures began in 1953 with roles in the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the National Guard, banking, and resource development. During his nearly 50-year career as a miner and mine operator, Roger amassed an extraordinary collection of gold specimens including large nuggets, fine dust, and representative ore samples. Each piece tells a story of geology, discovery, and the people who helped shape Alaska’s mining heritage.
In addition to his mining career, Roger has devoted his time, energy, and leadership to organizations that strengthen Alaska
