India’s space agency successfully launched into orbit a communications satellite from Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota on Sunday.

Launch Vehicle Mark-3 (LMV-3) lifted off carrying CMS-03, the heaviest communications satellite to be launched form India, weighing around 4400 kg, according to Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).

“The CMS-03 satellite is a multi-band communication satellite with coverage over a wide oceanic region, including the Indian landmass. And is designed for providing communication services for at least 15 years,” V Narayanan, chairman of ISRO said after the launch.

"It will significantly enhance connectivity with high-capacity bandwidth, enabling seamless and secure communication links between ships, aircraft, submarines, and Maritime Operations Centres of the Indian Navy,” Press Information Bureau of India said in a statement.
