NEW HAVEN, Ind. (WPTA) - A local produce farm is using part of its yield to give back.

This weekend, Kurtz Produce held a Volunteer Gleaning Day.

Volunteers came together on the New Haven property to pick pie pumpkins for its fields, collecting them to be donated to Community Harvest Food Bank and other local pantries.

The produce farm’s Operations Manager, David Kurtz, says the annual gathering has become a tradition.

“It started with my grandpa, and now, through the generations, we’re continuing that trend,” Kurtz said.

According to Kurtz, the tradition is all about community.

“It’s not just us, but it’s all of us, and so we’re continuing to support each other and lift each other up,” Kurtz said. “It really takes a community to work together, to thrive, and grow.”
