STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — At 8 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 2, over 50,000 runners hit the streets of the five boroughs as part of the 2025 TCS New York City Marathon.

The 26.2-mile event kicked off, as always, on Staten Island, where runners departed Fort Wadsworth and crossed the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge toward Brooklyn.

MTA Bridges and Tunnels closed both directions of the bridge’s upper level around 11 p.m on Saturday evening , Nov. 1, to allow for pre-race roadway preparation.

To accommodate the waves of runners during the marathon’s start, the lower level of the Verrazzano Bridge was closed to all non-emergency vehicular traffic starting at 7 a.m. Sunday.

According to the MTA, the bridge is expected to reopen in full sometime around 4 p.m.
