Saskatchewan’s favourite ball team is still playing, although it’s been tough during the past few weeks to know if the CFL’s Roughriders still ranked above Major League Baseball’s Toronto Blue Jays on the province’s popularity scale.
It seemed like Blue Jays Vladdy Guerrero Jr., Ernie Clement and Trey Yesavage, while chasing the team’s first World Series title in 32 years, were being mentioned more recently province-wide in offices, gyms and bars than playoff-bound Roughriders A.J. Ouellette, Jameer Thurman and Corey Mace.
The Roughriders didn’t have to play on the weekend, having earned a first-round playoff bye for finishing atop the West with a 12-6 record. They remain one postseason win away from their first Grey Cup appearance since 2013 and only the B.C. Lions stand in their way,
