AUBURN, Ala. (WTVM) — Auburn University has officially fired head football coach Hugh Freeze after just two and a half seasons with the program, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel.
Freeze posted a 15–19 record in 34 games at Auburn. He led the Tigers to one bowl game, and the team’s highest ranking under his leadership came earlier this season at No. 22.
Auburn fell to Kentucky 10-3 Saturday afternoon in Jordan-Hare Stadium.
According to ESPN, Defensive Coordinator D.J. Durkin is expected to be named interim Head Coach.
The university will reportedly owe Freeze a $15.4 million buyout, nearly identical to the amount Auburn paid former head coach Bryan Harsin after firing him eight games into his second season in 2022. Freeze signed a six-year, $39 million contract that same year.
