SUNDERLAND — Voters in three Northshire communities turned out to cast their ballots on Tuesday, Oct. 28, for a non-binding referendum on whether they favored closing two local elementary schools, and the results were similar across the board.
In each of the three communities - Sunderland, Danby and Mt. Tabor - voters indicated a preference to see the schools, Sunderland Elementary School and the Currier Memorial School in Danby, remain open and part of the educational mix within the Taconic & Green Regional School District.
In Sunderland, those opposed to closing the school prevailed by a 101-73 margin. In Danby, the result was even stronger - opponents of closing Currier Memorial mustered 148 votes to 46 in favor of closing it. And in Mt. Tabor, the result was 22 opposed and 6 in favor
