Sen. John Fetterman said today that his Democratic colleagues need to own their role in the federal government shutdown as Americans begin to lose food assistance benefits and more federal workers miss paychecks. The Pennsylvania Democrat called it “deeply distressing” that SNAP benefits ran dry for many people this weekend, telling CNN’s Jake Tapper on “State of the Union” that he refuses “to put 42 million Americans in the kinds of food insecurity.” Fetterman is one of three members of the Senate Democratic caucus who has voted repeatedly with Republicans in support of a stopgap bill to fund the government through November 21.
