RALEIGH, N.C. — The Atlantic Coast Conference has fined North Carolina State University and Southern Methodist University $50,000 each for violations of the league’s event security policy after fans stormed the field following their football games on Nov. 1, the conference announced Sunday.
According to the ACC, fans entered the field before visiting team personnel and game officials had exited the competition area, which is a violation of the league’s updated event security rules aimed at protecting players, coaches, officials, and spectators.
The incidents occurred after North Carolina State’s win over the Georgia Institute of Technology and Southern Methodist’s victory over the University of Miami. The fines mark the first offenses for each program under the policy.
